I know email groups are so 1998, but I still subscribe to several. Here are some of my favorites and a brief description of each:
robotechsadf- My yahoo group. It is a very loosely formatted Robotech play-by-post game. It never got much further than me and my brother-in-law goofing around with some Robotech characters. But I have kept it alive.
mv1talk - Marvel Volume One The granddaddy of all online Marvel fanfiction. At one time had many different authors. I think the old saying to many cooks in the kitchen kind of took over here. Some of the best Marvel fanfiction on the net. But suffers from poor organization and way too many dead links. Worth digging for the stuff that is still around though.
avengers2000 - AV2K Another giant of the online Marvel fanfiction world. Many good stories here. The different imprints can be rather confusing. I think this site kind of took over title of king of online Marvel fanficiton when MV1 started dying down.
ma-talk - Marvel Anthology - While I'm covering online Marvel fanfiction I can't leave out this one. It's not my favorite, but I do like some of the stories here including the Heroes for Hire series. I can't really recommend anything else because I haven't read many of the stories.
I've rediscovered some cool NES ROM hacking tools. Most of them are game specific for games such as Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., and Metroid. I really like playing around with FFHackster , a complete Final Fantasy ROM editor. I discovered this a few years ago and have been toying around with ideas ever since. Unfortunately, the map editor doesn't work with XP on my new computer. I'll post some of my ideas later on, maybe. Then again, maybe I will whine about my lack of focus and never think about it again. Oh life. Oh joy. Oh brother...
Well it's me again. It was a pretty dreary weekend here in sunny NC. Our good friend the Appalachian Wedge kept the clouds locked in pretty tight over my house all weekend. But today is a new day, and it's really nice outside. But alas, when it's nice outside I'm stuck inside with nothing better to do than to communicate with my adoring fans. That only exist in my imagination.
Anyway, I made two post last week about how I am getting bored with this thing. Now that's an oxymoron if I ever seen one. "Oh I'm like so bored with this stupid blog I'm going to whine about it like twice in one week." Give me a break.
One week after I officially get my Jeep running again, I take her four wheelin' at one of my favorite places. Wilson Creek. To be more specific, the trail is a forest road that runs into the Roseboro Road. Anyway, I had fun and didn't break anything. Tman had a ball too. He took his yoter through a mud hole that about swallowed the front end. The trail was overall pretty easy, even though there were a few hairy spots. There were some spots where my stock jeep could have used some more clearance. There was one spot that nearly knocked my teeth out as I came down hard on a rock. We hope to go again this weekend and take a camera this time. So look for me to post some pictures.
It's happening just like I said it would. I'm starting to get bored with my blog. I have to admit that the thrill lasted for longer than I thought it would. Almost two months!! Wow. But now I think that everything that I post sounds stupid and doesn't make sense to anybody but me. But nobody reads this garbage anyway. Well let me correct myself. I have had about 25 unique visitors to this blog. Most of them are just flipping through the channels using the "next blog" button at the top of the page.
But there have been a few that have stayed for a few minutes, the longest visit being fifteen minutes. Well there's my fifteen minutes of fame!! They probably got to my page, had the sudden urge to puke, and spent fifteen minutes hugging the porcelain god instead of reading my intellectual mumbo jumbo.
Admittedly I am a little reserved on here, but for a good reason. I'm trying to keep this on the down low. Trying to hide from "the man" can be hard sometimes.
It's kind of grumpy in the mornings. It runs on a new fuel: steak and beer. Not very efficient though, and the exhaust really stinks. But otherwise it runs really well. Look out Fred Flintstone!!
I finally got my jeep running again. She's back on the road: loud and proud. I was a little disappointed when we initially got it running. The brake caliper was sticking pretty bad and casuing my brakes to get hot. It has eventually stopped sticking. I guess six months of sitting caused some of the parts to rust up. It was also idling pretty high. I tightened down the exhaust manifold bolts real good, and played around with some sensors and now it runs better. I have now developed some kind of squeak around the radiator fan. It is either the fan clutch or the harmonic balancer is loose and rubbing. If it's not one thing it's ten others.
Yeah, it's finally started. I haven't posted on here in a week. I guess I'm finally starting to lose interest in my blog. Well, actually I have been busy this week. See the next post for details. I want to make this site more focused. But I'm just not a focused person. I have too many interests to cover them in one page. Now that my jeep is running again, I have a new found interest in four wheeling. I have found some cool groups in my area that are familiar with some of my favorite wheelin' spots. It's pretty exciting to find other people that love some of the same places that you love. Anyway, back to our regularyl scheduled borefest.
Here is a neat little program that allows you to use your gmail account as a file storage system. It is called GMail Drive and it is very simple to insall. It works with windows explorer to allow you to store files (up to 10MB) on your GMail email account. And it actualyl works! Thanks to kevin rose dot com for the link. The guy who wrote GMail Drive has also written a RSS reader for PocketPC. It's supposed to be one of the best ones around (actually it's the only free one). But I can't ever get it to work on my Asus A620. Go figure.
Mark Lyon's GMail Loader (GML) - Import Your Mail into GMail
GMail Utilities Here are links to some cool gmail utilities. Most of them aren't extrememly Windows friendly. Others require the .net runtimes from MiCrOsOfT to operate properly. If you are slightly more computer savvy than me these might be some really cool tools to use. Oh yeah, email me at brokedownpalace at gmail dot com if you want a gmail invite. Five more left!
Here are some of the RSS feeds that I subscribe to through Bloglines . You might see some similarities between this and my blogroll. Then again maybe not.
Well we didn't get the good old Jeep running this weekend. But we did get the new engine back in. We installed a new clutch, put on the timing chain cover, put on valve cover, and generally cleaned everything up reall good. The fun came when we were trying to line up the new engine with the transmission bell housing. It took three hours, four jacks, and some cussing to get the sucker back in there. We were so happy when it finally lined up and we could start some bolts into the bell housing. Our heads were so big we had to call it quits for the day. Next weekend we will have to hook up the starter, power steering pump, water pump, alternator, radiator, and connect all of the emissions control crap. Hopefully it will be running by next weekend and ready to hit the road on Monday. But we have our work cut out for us. Stay tuned for some pictures!
Here is a 1gb compact flash card for $72. These people are fairly reliable. I ordered the wrong thing from them one time and they credited my card when I called asking for a refund.
I actually have one comment! From somebody besides me! That's freakin' amazing. Well, it's from the dude that I got my oh-so-cool skin from. I guess that still counts. Maybe if I actually put something on here worth reading, more people would visit? Nah, I would still be talking with myself. Word.
I'm going to continue the saga of my poor jeep this weekend. Me and my dad are replacing the motor in it. We took it out last weekend. It wasn't too bad. But getting that sucker back in and getting everything hooked up right is going to be a beyotch. I've also replaced the clutch and radiator. I really hope this thing stops costing me $150 every time I turn around. As my grandpa says "You might have to jack it up and run a new one under it."
